Open Show 2007

I can't remember a time when there hasn't been a dog around in my life. My introduction to terriers, however, began in 1964 when my husband bought me an Airedale Terrier puppy bitch - for my Wedding Present. It was with Pip, that I “dipped my toe” into the world of showing. … I must say that I did much better when I bred and showed one of her progeny. As the Airedale reached old age, I was looking for a replacement (but smaller) terrier. I bought my first Scottie, (locally bred) in 1978 – a great character, but physically, he seemed to have every fault in the breed standards book….! Nevertheless, from then on, I was besotted with the character and appeal of the dour little Scots. When Drummond died in 1986, he was replaced with Meg (Killisport Sweet Talk). She formed the foundation stone to my show career, with much help, encouragement and advice from her breeder. One of Meg's progeny, Suenala Megastar, had a very successful show career as did her half sister, Suenala Megalanica. Now, a new generation of Suenala Scotties are growing up namely Killisport Kandy Bar at Suenala and her progeny, two of which, should make their debut this year. My learning curve in trimming, showing, breeding and assessing the qualities of the Scottish Terrier continues to develop. My first judging appointment was in 1995, with Scottish Breeds Club in Scotland, followed by my first Club show appointment at the North Midlands STC in 1997. I have judged at South Wales STC (1999) and the STBEA (2000), punctuated with one or two Open shows between.

I would like to thank the Officers and Committee for inviting me to judge at their Open Show on Sunday, 1^st April, 2007. Their hospitality was tremendous and I was made most welcome, setting the stage for a really enjoyable day. I found my Best in Show in Killisport Alice at Trakside JW – a lovely bitch in good, harsh coat. She moved beautifully and showed well. My Reserve Best in Show was Rolanka Rory for Clemegann who was a great showman and pushed hard, but unfortunately, did not quite have the coat quality of B.I.S. Best Puppy Killisport McNaught at Soarvale, a promising puppy, who I hope will continue to do well.
